Knight to e4

Knight to e4 is a chess pavilion located at the Sutro Baths, located at Land’s End, San Francisco, a modern day ruin. Poised between two hillside cliffs, the building burned down in the 1960s [1966, specifically] and is now a tourist attraction. The assignment called for integration of project and site. The chess pavilion sits at the far edge of the land and is situated within the ocean. The portion of the pavilion where the playing area is located pushes down into the water. It pulls up to allow for views of the Sutro Baths, the playing area, and the ocean.
